Changes to the UK Visa system
The British government is currently overhauling the UK Visa system to enable them to control immigration more effectively. The various visas or alternative routes that existed to allow foreign nationals to enter Britain are now in the process of being replaced by a five tier system and candidates will need to satisfy points criteria to qualify for each tier.
Tier 1 (Effective as of 30th June 2008) - This has replaced the highly skilled migrant programme (HSMP). It is for highly skilled workers and does not require a sponsor.
Tier 2 (Effective TBA) - For skilled workers with a work permit e.g. nurses, teachers, and
engineers ( scheduled to commence September 2008)
Tier 3 (Effective TBA)– For low skilled workers filling specific temporary labour shortages,
e.g. construction workers for a particular project
Tier 4 (Effective TBA) – For students
Tier 5 (Effective November 2008) – Significantly for commonwealth countries and replaces the Working Holiday Visa. It is known as the Youth Mobility Scheme.
We recommend using our Tier 1 Visa service as you will be guided through and advised on your application process by our fully registered (MARA) migration agents. This will ensure all the correct documentation is submitted quickly and accurately first time, eliminating the chances of mistakes which could mean your visa application is refused.
