Youth Mobility Scheme replaces Working Holidaymaker

Tier 5 – allowing you to work longer in the UK

From the 27th November 2008 the UK’s Working Holidaymaker scheme will be phased out and replaced by The Youth Mobility Scheme. The YMS is part of Tier 5 of the UK government’s new ‘points based immigration structure’.

In many ways similar to the Working Holidaymaker programme the Youth Mobility Scheme is designed to encourage young people under 30 to come to the UK to live, work and travel for up to 24 months. However it is being seen as a much better option for Australians and New Zealanders because they can now work in Britain for twice as long.

The out-going Working Holidaymaker visa only permitted people to work for up to 12 months of their UK stay which severely restricted the work experience they could gain. However successful applicants on the Youth Mobility Scheme will be able to stay in the UK for up to 2 years and be largely free to do whatever work they choose.

What does in mean for you?

Applicants to the Youth Mobility Scheme will be expected to fulfil the following criteria;

  • Aged between 18-31
  • Be from one of the participating countries. The scheme is currently open to Australia/NZ/Canada/Japan
  • Have the equivalent of 1600 GBP in their account at time of application
  • The application fee payable to the BHC will be 99 GBP. Please note if you have already had a UK working holiday visa or if you are currently on a UK working holiday Visa you will not be able to apply for this visa.

Why use FastrackUK ?

Many people who submit their own visa application can find it rejected because they have made one or two minor mistakes. Unfortunately this also means they lose their application fee and have to start the whole process from scratch.

At FastrackUK we can save you time, money and hassle by ensuring your Tier 5 application is correct first time round. To find out how we can help you successfully apply for Tier 5 contact your FTUK consultant today by clicking here.
