UK job market offering great opportunties for overseas workers
10 June 2008
May’s 'Report on Jobs', from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, shows that UK industry is showing a preference for temporary and contract workers during this time of economic slowdown.
The REC report showed that temp billings continued to rise at a solid pace. According to Kevin Green, chief executive of REC the trend for a more flexible workforce looks like it will continue for the time being
the credit crunch is continuing to slow permanent job growth, however employers still need to resource. An increasing number of companies are using temps as a way to ride the storm. Every week, 1.3 million temporary workers are keeping business in the UK moving.
Although UK industry may have shifted its emphasis on the type of employment it is offering, bosses are still demanding high quality experienced candidates and according to Suzanne Prichard, Managing Director of FastrackUK , this is where candidates from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa often have the edge.
FastrackUK is still seeing a strong demand for the candidates that we bring over to the UK because Antipodean workers often have great transferable skills, a strong work ethic and are very popular within UK companies. Australian, New Zealand and South African candidates should feel very optimistic especially as landing a UK contract or temporary role is more often than not the tried and tested way to kick start a great UK career.
