Further info about international money transfers
Exchange Rate many bank and non-bank providers offer so called “free” transfers but then take a huge margin on the transaction (anything up to 10%!). To check how good the rate you are being offered is, ask what the current “interbank” or “wholesale” rate is. The further your rate is from the interbank rate the worse the offered rate is. Check out interbank rates at http://www.ozforex.com.au/cgi-bin/spotrates.asp.
Fees There are several fees that can be involved in a foreign exchange transaction including telegraphic transfer (or TT) fees, commissions & bank receiving fees. Ask about which of these will be involved in your transaction. Using a provider like Tranzfers you will only be charged a one-off fee (GBP 7/AUD 15) or equivalent. There are no other fees involved!
