Travelling throughout London
Culturally, London itself is very similar to Australia and New Zealand so it isn’t too much of a culture shock making the move over there. There are a few aspects of life that differ to ours though, and the major one is getting around. If you live in London, you will learn to rely on the public transport system as one of the only ways of travelling. There is an extensive system of underground and overland train networks, supported by hundreds of bus routes and light rail systems.
However, don't despair! This system is far more sophisticated than our own public transport networks. Transport for London manages this network and provides a great journey planner on their website: www.tfl.gov.uk. Armed with a Tube map in one hand and an A-Z Street Directory in the other you will have no trouble accessing any part of London in far less time than driving.
Our handy Travel Glossary will tell you everything you need to know about getting around London. Click here to download.

Travelling around the rest of the country
Public transport systems are not as prominent in the rest of the country as they are in London. Many more people rely on road transport to get around for their everyday lives. There are still great bus networks within the cities, but there is a greater reliance on cars.
Travelling inter-city is easy with the National Rail network. Large rail operators, like Virgin Trains, run train services between the major cities and smaller towns along the way. You can also travel inter-city by coach services.
